De Southerly 105 Ketch is een karakteristiek Brits zeiljacht met een elektro hydraulische hefkiel en een aan skeg opgehangen hefbaar roer, waardoor het schip uitstekende zeileigenschappen combineert met een variabele diepgang van circa 1,00 tot 2,10 meter. Dit maakt het jacht bijzonder geschikt voor zowel kustwateren en getijdengebieden als ondiepe binnenwateren zoals het IJsselmeer, de Waddenzee en de Friese meren. De relatief zeldzame ketch uitvoering biedt extra flexibiliteit in de zeilvoering en zorgt voor een stabielere koers, terwijl de beschutte middenkuip, dubbele stuurstand en praktische dekindeling het schip goed hanteerbaar maken voor solozeilen of een kleine bemanning. Dit specifieke exemplaar onderscheidt zich door een groot aantal investeringen en technische verbeteringen in de afgelopen jaren. De belangrijkste is de uitgebreide refit van de complete kielconstructie in 2025, een essentiële en kostbare onderhoudspost bij dit type schip die daarmee voor lange tijd is ondervangen. In 2023 zijn onder andere het staand en lopend want vernieuwd, een Furlex rolreefinstallatie geplaatst en is een Raymarine lineaire autopilot professioneel op een versterkt roerkoningkwadrant gemonteerd. De elektrische installatie is eveneens in 2023 volledig vernieuwd, inclusief een automatisch schakelpaneel en 220V aansluitingen. Comfort en techniek werden verder verbeterd met onder andere een Vetus boegschroef (2022), Raymarine Tridata met NMEA2000 (2022), nieuwe Vetus rompramen en Autotherm dieselverwarming (2024), vernieuwde vuilwaterslangen en antifouling in 2024, en een nieuwe serviceaccu in 2026. Daarnaast is er aan boord extra aandacht besteed aan praktische bruikbaarheid en comfort. Vier extra vloerluiken creëren circa 400 liter extra bergruimte, waaronder ruimte voor een vouwfiets, en er is voorbereide plaats voor een grote lithium serviceaccubank tot circa 600 Ah. De ruime indeling biedt slaapplaatsen voor 7 tot 8 personen, een lichte salon, een ruime achterhut en een goed geventileerd interieur met hoogwaardig teakwerk. Samen met de uitgebreide zeilgarderobe en complete navigatie en dekuitrusting resulteert dit in een bijzonder compleet en goed onderhouden exemplaar van de Southerly 105 Ketch.
